Mediterranean Rituals

Roca continues its exploration of the bathroom space through architecture, design and technology with its latest presentation at Salone de Mobile in April 2026. The pavilion, designed by Barcelona-based Mesura studio, took Mediterranean architectural heritage as its point of departure, and the importance of fluid, open spaces. We think of Mediterranean architecture as one that moves seamlessly from indoors to outdoors, with shared spaces for conversation and covered areas to protect from sun or wind. Mesura designed the installation with this in mind. Curved, volumetric white forms punctured with geometric cut-outs or stepped walls, created the feeling of being in a classic white-washed home by the sea. Visitors walked through a series of interconnected spaces in which the Roca products formed a continuous narrative of the brand’s newest collections, including Meridan, In-Wash® Vorea and Verso, and its impact on bathroom design. “The bathroom is one of the most technically complex spaces in the home. It requires the integration of product design, installation systems and advanced technologies, increasingly connected, in order to function as a coherent whole,” says Marc Viardot, Marketing and Design Director at Roca Group. “Our presentation reflects this integrated approach, showing how architecture and design can frame and enhance the experience of the bathroom.”
Like Mediterranean architecture, light, form and materials are essential components in Roca’s continuing product development. The newly redesigned Meridian collection, a hallmark of the Roca brand, reflects a renewed approach to bathroom design, where modularity, timeless design and comfort are essential. Redesigned by Barcelona-based studio Altherr Désile Park with the objective of bringing forward the brand’s Mediterranean connection, Meridian is about finding balance and harmony in design and in our everyday routine. Known for their product design projects with numerous top brands, Altherr Désile Park intuitively captured the importance of designing a collection that is functional but also seamlessly integrated into its surroundings.
The collection embraces flexibility and adaptability, cornerstones of contemporary lifestyles, with elements that can be added or removed depending on what’s needed. While the arch is a guiding feature of the collection, as seen in the softly curving shape of the asymmetric Fineceramic® basins, the central metal frame provides a counterpoint, a contemporary metal structure from which the furniture can be built. Matt black, matt white and FSC-certified wood are minimal and elegant. Meridian won a Red Dot award in 2025 and the collection reaffirms Roca’s continued support of contemporary design and Mediterranean traditions.
