At Keitelman Gallery, Gabriele Di Matteo meets Jackson Pollock
During Brussels Art Days – 11 to 13 September – Keitelman Gallery will open the season with an exhibition of new work by the Italian artist Gabriele Di Matteo. Since 2009, the gallery is turned to the future. Through rigorous exhibitions, it showcases dense artists while emphasizing the essential link to time. It allows its artists to promote shows in groups while promoting great names of modern art. These are also produced by the gallery, in close collaboration with a desire to create lasting works. Binding the past, the present and the future is the leitmotiv of an evolving contemporary gallery. This year for Brussels Art Days, Keitelman will host the solo exhibition around the universe of the iconic American artist Jackson Pollock, randomly in line with the contents of TLmag 23 SS issue featuring his atelier and living environment in the East Hamptons.
Di Matteo is one of the mischievous band of Italian artists that includes Piero Manzoni to Maurizio Cattelan, who, like illusionists, plays at reshuffling the cards of art and the art world. This time, he enters into the Pollock’s world by copying these photographs in paint. The American painter is represented and his portraits have been painted. The Milan-based artist highlights many questions such as: where are the traces of this art, the aura, the smoke? Who owns it now? The artist, his follower, the copyist, you, me?
