MAD Brussels presents Matching Seats, a selection of outstanding chairs from the collection of Galila Barzilai Hollander that are paired with contemporary fashion accessories. For over twenty years, Hollander has built one of the leading collections of contemporary art and design. A champion of emerging artists and of experimental ideas, Hollander goes beyond collecting by also regularly curating exhibitions, including in her private art space, Galila’s POC, to allow the public the opportunity to see one-of-a-kind pieces.

At Matching Seats, chairs are seen in a variety of mediums from plastic to wire mesh. Highlights include the prototype that led to the Mutation Series by Brussels-based designer Maarteen De Ceulaer that features multiple stacked spheres. German designer’s Kai Linke humorous approach to the standard plastic garden chair to make it seem as if it came out of an AI machine. Sofia Leitão used mirror shards to create a seating sculpture, while the Italian Anna Monichi crafted a chair from Barbie parts.

What gives Matching Seats an added layer is the pairing with distinctive fashion accessories, including bags from designers as Eunji Oh, Sarah Levy and Naomi Gilon, along with scarf from Aurélie Defez and shoes from Marc Martha. This juxtaposition creates a dialogue between designers and between fashion and furniture. The scenography is by Marie Douel.

The full list of artists includes: Alessandro Guerriero, Anna Monichi, Harold Lechien, Jerszy Seymour, Johan de Wit, Julien Berthier, Kai Linke, Laura Lima, Lionel Jadot, Maarten De Ceulaer, Maria Nepomuceno, M-L-XL, Manfred Kielnhofer, Nicola Bolla, Niels Van Eijk x Miriam van der Lubbe, Pablo Reinoso, Rogier Martens, Sofia Leitão, Stéphane Ducatteau, Thibeau Scarcériaux, Tjep, Tom Schmelzer, Ty Locke, Gelitin, Naomi Gilon, Dorilou, Cousons Cousine, Eunji Oh, Le mot Rose, MarcMartha, Komono x Uliana Shadow, Tom Van Der Borght, Aurélie Defez, Sarah Levy, Filles à Papa, Dries Van Noten.
